3. Project  cost                          : Rs. 1,01,25,819/-
      i) DST, GoI Share                : Rs 91,13,237/-
ii) State Share                       : Rs  10,12,582/-

4. Implementing agency              : Manipur Science & Technology Council Central jail Road, Imphal – 795001.
5.  Sponsoring agencies              : i) S&T Council Division, DST, GOI ,
                                                   ii) DST, Govt. of Manipur

1.0 Abstract of the Project:
Micro Hydel Power Generation is a viable alternative to extension of grid lines in rural/remote/hilly areas. To exploit micro hydel potential on large scale, it is necessary to develop cross-flow turbine suitable for (2 x 50) kW and more for installation on the rivers/streams  in the hills.. Since there is a very good perennial source of water in the   Zoulangpang river, Dailong Village, Tamenglong District, therefore cross-flow turbine is an ideal option to meet the site conditions in the implementation of such schemes in the State of Manipur

1.1 Advantages of Cross-flow Turbine:
  1. Good efficiency even on part loading conditions.
  2. Need for thrust bearing is eliminated since the discharge crosses through the turbine.
  3. Manufacture and erection of the turbine is easy.
  4. Because of less weight, transportation of cross-flow turbines is easier.
  5. Since the discharge crosses through the turbine, it adds up to self-cleaning property to the turbine.
  6. Suitable for wide range of flow and head.

2.0 Project Site :
The project was implemented at Dailong village, Tamenglong District, Manipur over the Zoulangpang Stream. Dailong viallage is situated at about 160 km from the State Capital, Imphal and 12 kms from Tamenglong District Headquarters towards Tamei in the Tamenglong-Tamei Road.

3.0 Objectives of the Project:
  1. To design and develop the cross-flow turbine packages suitable for (2 x 50) kW capacities. The packages consist of turbines and electronic load controllers for a micro hydel station at Dailong Village.
  2. To study the problems of and set guidelines for installation, operation, maintenance and energy utilisation associated with micro hydel units in remote hilly terrains. Micro hydel units are environmentally clean and eco-friendly and are ideally suited to decentralised power generation.

  2. Design head                 : 105 m
  3. Design discharge          : 180 lps

3.2 Power generation:
            i) Installed capacity       : 2x50 kW
            ii) Power (potential)
                Generation (based    : 80 kW.
                on 80% efficiency)

iii) Actual Power Generated : 96 kW

3.3 Cost of generation   : Rs. 1.28/kW

4.0 Project Summary :
The project was started on March 31, 2000 and commissioned during February, 2010. The project was inaugurated on the 20th September, 2010 by Shri L.P. Gonmei, Principal Secretary (Power), Govt. of Manipur with a formal Inaugural Function presided over by Shri H. Imocha Singh, Commissioner (Science & Technology), Govt. of Manipur. Shri K. Panmei, Deputy Commissioner, Tamenglong District was the Honour Guest of the Function. Various officials from Tamenglong District Headquarter and State Power Department also attended the Inaugural Function.
